Domestic Violence Prevention Initiative

UIHS’s Mending the Circle project (MCP) will strengthen our clinic and our community response to domestic and sexual violence through culturally appropriate community education, screening, assessment, treatment, documentation, safety planning, referral, advocacy, case management and follow up.

The MCP is intended to identify and fill gaps in our current response system, shore up holes in our community collaboration efforts, formalize relationships with community partners, and bring together our collective resources to create a sustainable effort to reduce the devastating effects of domestic and sexual violence on American Indian community members.

The project’s goal is to expand the capacity of our communities to detect and respond to domestic and sexual violence impacting American Indians and to connect survivors with culturally appropriate services to regain balance and healing.

American Indian and Alaska Native (AI/AN) women experience higher rates of violence than any other ethnicity group (2016). More than four in five AI/AN women (84.3 %) have experienced violence in their lifetime.

56.1 % have experienced sexual violence.

48.8 % have experienced stalking.

66.4 % have experienced psychological aggression by an intimate partner.

DOMESTIC VIOLENCE IS A COMMUNITY HEALTH ISSUE.

LET’S COME TOGETHER TO ADDRESS THIS!
