Job Description

Clinical Staff Pharmacist for Native American Clinic UIHS is seeking a full time staff pharmacist to work in our in-house pharmacy for a clinic that serves 12,000+ native american patients. Time will be divided between the two following roles: 1. Dispensing Pharmacist (~20 hours/week) In addition to the typical dispensing RPh tasks for any retail pharmacy, you will be doing the following: ● Carefully checking patient's medical history in our EHR system (NextGen) for duplicates, interactions, etc. Our checking is more in depth than the typical retail pharmacy due to access to patient’s full medical history. ● Work with providers to recommend alterations in medication therapy as needed. ● Select the best medication option based on 340b pricing rules and our clinic’s tiered pricing system. ● Authorize refills, auto substitution, etc. based on clinic protocols. These extra steps are not optional in our pharmacy and allow pharmacists to be more involved in patient care. A pharmacist who prefers the faster, assembly-line dispensing of some retail pharmacies will not do well in this environment. 2. Clinical Pharmacist (~20 hours/week) Our clinic is beginning a Disease State Management or Medication Therapy Management (MTM) program in order to provide more complete and holistic support for our patients and providers. With the Pharmacy Directors assistance, you will help set up the following: ● Work with providers to determine the type of program that would be most helpful to our patients. ● Work out the details of the program and get buy-in from all relevant members of the clinic. ● Write protocols and policies. ● Serve as the primary RPh providing these new services. **Creating this program will require a self-starter mentality, and the ideal candidate will have some experience in these clinical areas of practice. Education Requirements: Must possess a pharmacy degree from a college of pharmacy. A Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D) degree with at least 3 years’ experience is preferred. UIHS is a tribal health program serving the native population of Humboldt and Del Norte counties providing primary care and community outreach services. Help us continue toward our vision: A healthy mind, body, and spirit for generations of our American Indian Community. We strive to bring members of the community together so they can not only be unified in ensuring the best care is provided to their families, but also help in preserving Native culture through education, community outreach, and medicine. UIHS is dedicated to our professional workforce and offers paid access to continuing education, licensure and other needs to help our employees provide the most up to date health care possible. UIHS offers an excellent work life balance. Our pharmacy is open Monday - Friday, 8:30 am-5:30 pm. Full-time employees start with 3 weeks of paid time off per year, as well as 11 paid Holidays. Other benefits include: comprehensive health care plans for individuals and families, 4% matched retirement plans. All are welcome to apply, American Indian Preference will be given (42 CFR 136.42)
