Chief Executive Officer
United Indian Health Services, headquartered in Arcata, California, operates seven Tribal Health Program outpatient clinics with medical, dental, behavioral health, vision and community health & welfare services across Humboldt and Del Norte counties. We employ highly qualified clinical, social service and support staff professionals and are embarking on a nationwide Chief Executive Officer search for an individual with exceptional leadership, creative, and organizational skills.
Serving the Tribal communities for fifty years we continue to grow and take pride in providing very high quality services to our Native American clients. Our clinics are located along the rural northern California coastal and inland areas, and are known for Redwoods, rivers and beautiful mountains. Arcata is also the home of Humboldt State University.
The Chief Executive Officer will have the opportunity to work closely with the UIHS Board of Directors and a highly talented and high performing leadership team to further the mission, vison and values of United Indian Health Services. Key duties will include identifying and effectively responding to the needs of the community served through quality design and implementation of policies and operating procedures, organizational development and training, operational and program planning, regulatory agency compliance, continuous quality improvement activities, maintaining standards of accreditation, and broad community and membership communications and outreach.
The CEO provides managerial oversight of the Clinical, Community Health & Wellness, Executive and Fiscal divisions and works directly with Division Directors and other managers to ensure fulfillment of the organization’s vision, mission, core philosophies, and Guiding Principles.
The successful candidate will possess the following specific skillset:
•Medical and other clinical staff management experience.
•Clinical administrative policy development expertise.
•Strong knowledge of strategic plan and operating plan development and implementation.
•Solid background and understanding of the cultural issues associated with a Tribal Health Program serving the healthcare needs of rural communities.
•Skilled in the responsible resolution of political issues facing multiple group constituencies.
•Broad working knowledge of financial issues of administering multiple government and private revenue streams.
•Well-versed in the complexities of managing the human resources required of a multiple-services, rural-based healthcare program, including licensed healthcare providers and technical support staff.
•Experience in implementing creative marketing and community-specific communications programs related to encouraging demand for services.
Education will include the following:
•Master’s Degree from an accredited college/university in Public Health, Business Administration or Public Administration with an emphasis in health care services and five (5) years of progressive experience as a Chief Executive Officer or other senior operating officer at an ambulatory healthcare facility, or
•Bachelor’s Degree and a minimum of seven (7) years of progressive experience as a Chief Executive Officer or other senior operating officer at an ambulatory healthcare facility.
