Programs for People with Diabetes

Several programs are offered through the Diabetes Awareness Program only for UIHS clients with diabetes. These programs are dependent on funding availability:

American Indian clients who have diabetes can apply for funding support to join a
weight loss program or physical activity program. Applications are available
from the Community Services Division.

Free blood glucose meters and diabetic testing supplies are available.

Foot and nail care is provided by the Diabetes Outreach Workers.

Repchem, monthly educational classes with a healthy lunch focusing on diabetes
self-management for people with diabetes and their families. Repchems are held
monthly at:

  • Potawot, the second Wednesday of the month 11am-12:30 pm
  • Smith River Elder Nutrition site, the third Wednesday of the month 12:00 pm-1:30 pm
  • Weitchpec Community room the last Wednesday of the month 11:00 am-12:30 pm

Diabetes Support groups for people with diabetes and their families held at
Potawot Health Village (every Wednesday 2 pm-3:30 pm) and the Klamath Tribal Office
(every Tuesday 2 pm-3:30 pm).
